JH Mechanical & Electrical sponsored local kickboxer Marlie Corbyn, who proudly represented Team England at the ISKA World Championship held in Austria in October 2024.

Marlie, who has just turned 15, competed fiercely in the under-45kg category, facing opponents from around the world and bringing home a gold medal in light contact kickboxing and a silver medal in full contact kickboxing.

Her journey to Austria was made possible by the support of sponsors, including Teesside business JH Mechanical & Electrical, who provided sponsorship to help cover her travel expenses. The young athlete competed in two challenging divisions for her age and weight category. In her first category Marlie faced a Welsh opponent, taking home the silver medal in a close match. She then went on to secure gold in the light contact division, avenging her earlier loss against the same Welsh competitor in the final.

The Stockton based mechanical, electrical and water management company who have an aim to be the best company to work for and to work with, recognises its responsibility to support the local community and is proud to play a role in supporting local athletes like Marlie.

John Heward, managing director said: “Marlie’s determination and success is inspiring to all of us. Her commitment to her training and her relentless pursuit of excellence embodies the spirit we strive for at JH Mechanical & Electrical. We are proud to support her journey and celebrate her achievements on an international stage.”

A passionate athlete, Marlie trains at Impact Martial Arts in South Bank with her coach, sister and father. Her ambition is to follow in the footsteps of her older sister, Mary Corbyn, a seven-time World Kickboxing Champion across WKO, ISKA, ICO, WKU, and WMO federations. Marlie’s next goal is to secure a British Title belt in her category, working to become the best in Britain at -45kg and build her career towards even greater achievements.

For Marlie, representing Team England at the world championship was a dream come true. With limited funding available at any level in the sport, Marlie recognises the importance of community and corporate sponsorship, and expressed her thanks to JH Mechanical & Electrical for their role in getting her to Austria, saying: “The funds donated by JH Mechanical & Electrical made it possible for me to compete. Without their support, along with others who helped me, I wouldn’t have made it to the ISKA World Championship.”
